Teacher Ms. Harper and Assistant Teacher Mr. O’Connor introduced their project question for the summer: “Who is your hero? Who inspires you?”

As an opening activity the 5th grade class discussed if you were a superhero what special powers would you have? A few of the their superhereos had special basketball powers and one had a shapeshifter power!

The all-class read is “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen, a Newbery Honor-winning young-adult wilderness survival novel. Our Horizons students like the idea of reading about a book set in a different environment like the wilderness. The class journaled on the question of the day, “If I was stranded in the wilderness, I would…” Anthony said, “Run!!!”

The 5th graders are working on goals for the summer as program leaders in their Leadership Training Enrichment Course.
